TS in power surplus: KTR raps Opposition

HYDERABAD: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said that Telangana had become a power-surplus state despite providing round-the-clock free supply to farmers, rapping the BJP and Congress-ruled states that were facing energy deficits.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Rama Rao said that the double-engine states of BJP-governed and Congress-governed states or those of its coalition partners are facing power deficits.

“Telangana which was projected as a power deficit state in 2013-14 is now not only a power surplus state but also topped the country with the highest per capita consumption for any state. Also, Telangana is the only state that provides 24/7 free power to farmers. Telangana Model of Development is the best role model for the rest of India,” the minister said.

Netizens responded to Rama Rao's post stating that the Congress government in Rajasthan cut power to both industries and domestic users.

“In the midst of inefficiency, they have decided to supply power to farmers only at night. The BJP-ruled state of Gujarat couldn't even provide 10 hours of electricity to farmers. This is despite three decades of their rule,” a user posted.

Another user said: “On the other hand, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has transformed Telangana into a power surplus state, providing 24/7 free and quality power to farmers and putting an end to power holidays for industries.”

The BRS government spent Rs 97,321 crore to expand and strengthen power generation, supply and distribution systems, which were previously neglected and discriminated against during the past nine years. The power generation capacity in the state increased from 7,778 MW to 18,567 MW, the minister said.

In a related development, Rama Rao said that the Palamiuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation project was set to be launched, after the dry run was completed. Rama Rao compared the Palamuru-Rangareddy project with the Kaleswaram project in supplying water to farmers to cultivate the lands.
