Hyderabad: Campaigning for the elections to the Singareni Collieries recognised unions ended on Tuesday evening. Polling is scheduled to be held on October 5 in all the 11 divisions of Singareni across many districts in north Telangana region.

Though there are 15 unions fighting for the recognition, the main contest is between the TRS-sponsored TBGKS and CPI-sponsored Aituc.

As many as 53,000 voters spread over four Lok Sabha and 20 Assembly constituencies in north Telangana will exercise their franchise in the elections that have seen unprecedented campaign unleashed by the above mentioned unions supported by many political parties. While TBGKS is fighting alone, it has Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha and scores of TRS legislators, ministers and MPs campaigning on its behalf all these days to clinch the recognised union status.

The Aituc is supported by the Congress-sponsored Intuc and the TD-sponsored TNTUC. The campaign has been led by AICC secretary R.C. Kuntia, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and TD working president A. Revanth Reddy.

The Singareni elections have also given rise to speculations that three Opposition parties will continue with their alliance struck for these polls and fight the ruling party in future elections. Results will be declared on Thursday night.

In case the TRS-sponsored union sails through, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who has openly appealed for TBGKS victory, may continue his political strategies by causing the Nalgonda Lok Sabha bypoll. Largescale usage of money power has witnessed during the election campaign.
