Telangana Elections: All contenders eye prized Serilingampally
Hyderabad: Serilingampally constituency, one of the biggest constituencies in the country with over 7.2 lakh voters, is being eyed by all political parties.
This constituency houses most of the IT companies and high-rise buildings. The highest property tax is also generated from GHMC circles in this constituency.
Though there are many high-rise buildings in this segment, there are also many slums. Political parties are laying special focus on these slums. There are also many localities where a large number of Telanganites of Andhar Origin (TAOs) reside.
Incumbent MLA and BRS candidate, Arekapudi Gandhi participated in the ‘CBN gratitude concert’ held recently in GMC Balayogi stadium. The concert was organized by Telugu Desam activists to mark the silver jubilee of ‘Cyber Towers’.
The Congress party is fielding GHMC floor leader and three-time Madhapur corporator V. Jagadeeshwar Goud. His wife Pujitha is a two-time Hafeezpet corporator. Both of them recently resigned from the BRS and joined Congress.
The BJP is yet to decide its candidate as its poll-partner Jana Sena Party is seeking this seat.
In the 2018 Assembly elections, TDP’s V. Ananda Prasad and BJP’s Gajjala Yoganand finished second and third, respectively.
In 2014 Gandhi won on a TDP ticket while in 2009, Bikshapathi Yadav, the Congress candidate, won the election. Bikshapathi Yadav’s son Ravi Kumar Yadav is trying to get the BJP ticket from Serilingampally.
