BRS councillors and corporators up the ante against their own chiefs

Hyderabad: Following its recent electoral debacle, the BRS is losing its base in urban local bodies (ULBs) located outside GHMC limits. Elections to these ULBs are likely to be held a year from now.

In over 20 ULBs, BRS councillors are trying to oust their own party chairpersons though no-confidence motions. A similar trend prevails in municipal corporations.

"It is only if the chairperson is from the ruling party that my ward will develop," said a councillor from Adibatla.

BRS councillors and corporators have decided to vote in favour of chairpersons and mayors from the Congress.

In Friday, councillors and corporators from Mahbubnagar, Adibatla, Naryankhed and Narsapur ULBs passed no-confidence motions against their chairpersons and mayors.

On Thursday, Armoor municipal chairperson Dr Pandith Vinitha Pavan was ousted when 20 BRS councillors voted against her. Several BRS corporators in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation have shifted their loyalties to the Congress.

“More BRS corporators will join Congress given that ‘Operation Akarsh’ is underway. The BRS is trying hard to retain them at least till the Lok Sabha elections but that will be a futile exercise,” said a Congress leader from Warangal.

The condition is much the same in Jawaharnagar municipal corporation and Adibatla municipality.
