Ayyakannu made this complaint during the monthly agriculturalists' grievances day meeting here on Friday, presided by the Tiruchy collector S. Sivarasu. He urged the district administration to remove all the bottlenecks against sanctioning crop loans and to ensure speedy disbursement of the same.

Chennai: Political party leaders and members, too, sport green shawls to express their solidarity with the farming community in TN, while agitating for the cause of Cauvery Management Board. Strangely, the farmers and farm labourers readily accept the invitation of political parties and ‘lend’ support to such political rallies, hoping for justice and also for the sake of a square meal for the day.

“Their situation is so acute and their plight so pathetic that the farmers who are going without food accept to participate in the agitations of various political parties for a square meal,” C. Nallasami, secretary, Federation of Tamil Nadu Agriculturalists Associations (FTAA), said. He says farmers and political leaders in TN should be united on the Cauvery issue.

Mr Nallasami also flayed the agitation by farmer leader P. Ayyakannu, who led Tamil Nadu farmers protest in New Delhi and said farmers should not stoop down to a low level but maintain their dignity.
