THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said issues related to environment should not be approached emotionally. On the eve of World Environment Day, the chief minister said that environment was a branch of science and required to be dealt with patience. “Closing down pollution making industrial units is no solution. We need to put in place scientific systems to strictly control pollution and turn such units into environment friendly ones and sustain them,” he said.

Pinarayi said extensive research was needed to handle issues related to environment. Those who have gained enough expertise in such matters should record their opinion on environment issues. Long lasting solutions to environment issues can be found through such opinions and addressing the popular sentiments of people with patience.

The chief minister said issues like waste disposal, over exploitation of natural resources, wastage of energy, unlawful exploitation of nature, non scientific consumption of water have to studied in detail and if required law should be framed to check misuse.

While exploitation of environment needs to dealt with sternly, unscientific, extremist and blind positions on such issues should be avoided. The government is for an environment protection which does not stagnate development activities. “Let us all come together for environment friendly decentralized comprehensive development culture,” he said.
