NIZAMABAD: All residents of Manchippa village in Mopal mandal boycotted Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's visit to Nizamabad on Monday. The villagers took the decision in protest against the arrest of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme (KLIS) oustees.

Ahead of Rao’s visit, police had taken into preventive custody five leaders from Manchippa village. They were protesting against local KLIS works. Manchippa villagers fear submergence of their agriculture lands and village boundaries due to increase in the height of the Manchippa reservoir, a component of the KLIS.

Reportedly, the village elders planned to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Monday. But, police took five leaders into custody to the villagers’ chagrin. The villagers burnt effigies of the Chief Minister and that of Nizamabad rural MLA Bajireddy Govardhan.
