Tamil Nadu BJP Meeting Today
Annamalai not well, yatra postponed
BJP State president K Annamalai has been diagnosed with ‘Lower Respiratory Tract Infection of Viral etiology with bronchospasm’ and prescribed bed rest for a period of two weeks, besides medicines, prompting postponement of the third phase of his ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ yatra that was earlier scheduled to start on Friday.
He would, however, attend the meeting of party State office-bearers on Thursday at a kalyana mandapam to discuss the future course of action in the aftermath of the AIADMK snapping ties with the BJP, said party sources that also released the hospital report to the media.
Annamalai, who had visited the private hospital in Perumbakkam with complaints of ‘cough, breathing difficulty, throat pain, body ache and fatigue,' soon after landing in Chennai from New Delhi on Tuesday evening, would also have to attend a court hearing on the defamation case filed by DMK treasurer T R Baalu on Wednesday ahead of the meeting, party sources said.
But the yatra would be postponed as he would take rest, as advised by doctors, for some time after attending the meeting that is expected to finalise the allies for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The meeting is crucial as it would decide on the political stand of the party now that it would be heading the NDA in the State unlike in the past when the AIADMK was the leader of the coalition.
No one from the BJP had so far reacted to the AIADMK walking out on the national party as they had been reportedly asked to keep quiet on the split. Will that silence continue or the party would talk against the AIADMK, too, would be known only after the meeting.
