Hyderabad: The BRS, brimming with indignation at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘revelations’ about conversations he had with Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, on Wednesday lashed out at Modi and the BJP, with several BRS leaders criticising Modi and the party members working on social media platforms to take Modi to task.

Although BRS leaders claimed that Modi’s comments were of no consequence, the Prime Minister’s claims in Nizamabad appeared to have caused serious concern, if not rattled, the BRS, with one senior party leader saying that there was a worry as to how Modi’s message was being perceived by the cadre on the ground.

Meanwhile, several other BRS leaders hit out on Modi, as the party reserved some of its trenchant criticism for social media, using cartoons, video clips and comments that left no one in any doubt the BRS’s disdain for Modi.

Rama Rao took to X (formerly Twitter) to point out that in 2018, the BJP had volunteered support to BRS to form the government in the state, a comment that set off protests from the BJP, even as the party, on the same platform, pointed out multiple times how the Modi government was selling away the country’s assets, including some of its best undertakings, to private business houses.

“This is BJP’s new Becho India” one post, which portrayed Modi as a street seller trying to hawk away the likes of BPCL, LIC, BSNL, Railways and NTPC, said.

The theme of ‘Modi’s salesmanship’ ran through BRS’ online campaign that was peppered with videos of Rama Rao on Tuesday rejecting Modi’s claims at the BJP’s Nizamabad public meeting. “While KCR stands for ‘nammakam (belief), Modi is for ‘ammakam (selling away)” the party said in multiple posts on X.

The BRS also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning him over his comments that Modi’s claims at Nizamabad proved “BRS and BJP are together.”

The BRS asked: “When Modi spoke about Congress, it was a lie, but when the same Modi spoke about BRS it was the truth? Rahul Gandhi’s hypocrisy is no less than Modi’s lies.”
