BJP Urges Courts to Avoid Drag of Cases Against Political Leaders

KAKINADA: The BJP has urged courts to dispose of cases of criminal and economic offences, pending against political leaders, without delay. Courts must demonstrate that “Justice is equal to all’’.

The Kakinada district president of the BJP, Chilukuri Ramkumar, told the media here on Sunday that a letter to this effect was written to the Chief Justice of India by the BJP state president. It also urged courts to revoke the bail of prominent persons, in particular politicians, who often seek to play with law.

Tainted political leaders are facing serious allegations. Though they are ruling the state or did so in the past, the courts should dispose of their cases in the normal course, without delay, he stressed.

The BJP leader said, “It is not appropriate that such tainted politicians are roaming freely in the society after obtaining bail for years.  “There is a difference between law and people's verdict. If a leader wins an election, that does not mean he can escape from his criminal cases. He should be punished.”

He noted that the Supreme Court had previously given instructions to the lower courts to dispose of the criminal cases relating to people’s representatives within a year. But the lower courts are allowing adjournments repeatedly for long years. Such acts would shake the people’s confidence in courts.

Under such conditions, the victims would, alternatively, seek help from the local leaders, goons’ or others. The Khap Panchayat culture existed in states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan etc due to failure on the part of courts to ensure justice to the victims, he pointed out.

BJP’s official spokesperson Yarlagadda Ramkumar and senior leader Duvvuri Subrahmanyam were also present at the media meet.
