Telangana Assembly session to be held from January 17
KCR considers the day as auspicious.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided convene the newly-elected Assembly at 11.30 am on January 17. The day is said to be auspicious in that it is the first Ekadasi of Uttarayana.
Mr Rao said that in view of the landslide victory that the people gave, it had been decided to commence the Assembly proceedings during the auspicious Uttarayana days. The session will run for four days till January 20.
MIM Charminar legislator Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the senior-most MLA of the House, will be pro tem Speaker. He will take oath at Raj Bhavan at 5 pm on January 16, a day before the commencement of the session. Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan will administer him the oath of office. Mr Khan will administer the oath to the newly-elected MLAs.
After oath-taking, the schedule for the Spea-ker’s election will be announced and the nomination process with follow. The Speaker will be elected on January 18. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao and leader of the Opposition and floor leaders of other political parties will escort Speaker to the Chair.
The proceedings will continue with Speaker in the chair. He will conduct the business advisory committee meeting after the House is adjourned and will take a decision on the Governor’s address scheduled for the following day.
Mr Narasimhan will address the joint session of the Assembly and the Legislative Council on January 19. The House will introduce a motion of thanks to the Governor’s address and adopt it the same day.
