Chennai: Alleging that home secretary Apurva Verma and inspector general of police, state intelligence, K.N. Sathiyamurthy, are very close to the ruling establishment and act like AIADMK persons, the DMK on Saturday requested the Election Commission to transfer them immediately.

The party also sought the transfer of school education secretary Sabitha as she is holding the post since 24 January 2012 and is involved in the selection of booth level officers. The DMK submitted three memorandums addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni.

The DMK also wanted the transfer of police inspectors, DSPs and ACs in 22 constituencies including R.K. Nagar represented by Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. The memorandum said the police officers were handpicked by the ministers and said, “Often, most mistakes and malpractices happen in connivance at these levels and right choice of officers here is critical for a free, fair and peaceful conduct of an election”.
