Chennai: The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (EO-II) Court, Egmore at Allikulam has issued an ultimatum to the AIADMK deputy general secretary and party candidate for the RK Nagar Assembly bypoll, TTV Dhinakaran, to appear before the court on April 10 in connection with the two-decade old FERA case registered against him.

The ACMM (EO-II) S. Malarmathy, passed the order on Wednesday after Dhinakaran failed to appear before the court repeatedly. Last week the ACMM (EO-II) had dismissed his petition seeking adjournment of the trial for six weeks. When the matter came up for hearing before the ACMM (EO-II) S. Malarmathy, the counsel for Dhinakaran sought adjournment of the case.

Rejecting the plea, the ACMM (EO-II) S. Malarmathy directed Dhinakaran to appear before the court on April 10. Meanwhile, Dinakaran approached the Madras High court challenging the rejection order of the trial court.

When the criminal original petition came up for hearing before Justice R. Mahadevan on Wednesday, senior public prosecutor for the Enforcement Directorate vehemently opposed the plea stating it was another attempt to drag on the 20-year-old case. The judge adjourned the matter to Thursday for hearing.

The ED registered a total of nine cases against Sasikala, Dhinakaran and their associates and companies. The ED sought the trial court to hear the case on a daily basis.
