Vijayawada: AP BJP chief Somu Veerraju on Wednesday slammed the state government for failing to arrest culprits involved in desecration of idols in Andhra Pradesh. He threatened to stage a march from Kapila Teertham to Rama Teertham to highlight the issue.

Addressing the media at the party headquarters here on Wednesday, Veerraju underlined that ancient temples in the state have been targeted over a period of time. Several instances of desecration have been reported from Rama Teertham, Antarvedi, Vijayawada and recently at Phirangipuram, where the idol of Lord Ganesha had been destroyed.

The BJP chief observed that such incidents are recurring as the state government is not acting promptly by arresting the culprits involved in such crimes. “If the state government fails to arrest the culprits involved in vandalising of Lord Ganesha idol, we will stage a march from Kapila Teertham to Rama Teertham in protest,” he warned

Referring to the recent visit of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan to New Delhi, where he met the top leadership of BJP, Veerraju said the alliance between BJP and Jana Sena is growing stronger. They would together dethrone the ruling YSR Congress government in AP, he maintained.

When asked about Pawan Kalyan meeting Telugu Desam supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu, the BJP chief described it as just a meeting, which could not be interpreted as Jana Sena forging an alliance with TD.

On arrest of BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay for alleged involvement in question paper leak, Veerraju condemned the arrest. He described it as an act of cowardice by the BRS government. He accused Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao of conspiring to trouble BJP leaders, so that he could earn money for facing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the ensuing elections in Telangana.
