THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After his hectic fortnight long campaign across the state, V S Achuthanandan has decided to devote the rest of the time till polling in his constituency Malampuzha. The veteran leader had led the LDF campaign in all districts barring Palakkad, addressing scores of rallies.

The  93-year-old  leader who is the star campaigner of the LDF, is in great demand. Most candidates are approaching him directly or through the party, to campaign at least for once in their constituency. The party might take a call whether VS presence is required in some more constituencies especially ahead of the polling day.

However, sources close to Achuthanandan said the veteran leader wants to spend time with the voters of his constituency. The veteran leader will return from Malampuzha on the eve of polling. He will cast his vote at Alappuzha.

Though the LDF claims that it will manage a comfortable victory, the veteran leader is not ready to take any chances especially with the BJP trying to make inroads into the traditional strongholds of the Left with the help of BDJS. Sources said the CPM leadership has given direction to all its branches to keep a close watch on the undercurrents in their area especially in respect of possible shift in traditional Left votes.

The opposition leader has continued his attack on Vellapally saying that he was attacking the SNDP leader and not the community members. He is trying to drive home the point that the SNDP leader had cheated the poor women of his own community and hence should be brought to justice.
