Mysuru: With the countdown having begun for the May 12 assembly poll, all the major parties pulled out all stops to woo the voters in the Chief Minister’s home town of Mysuru on Saturday. While BJP president Amit Shah descended on the constituency to campaign for his party, the Congress had Sandalwood star, Darshan out wooing voters on its behalf and JD (S) had party supremo H D Deve Gowda’s daughter, Anasooya Manjunath as their star campaigner for the day.

Mr Shah, who was accompanied by candidates of  the various constituencies and MP Pratap Simha, focused on holding massive road shows in the district rather than on speeches. Ms Anasooya campaigned door- to- door for her daughter’s father-in-law, Prof K S Rangappa , who is contesting from Chamaraja constituency, accompanied by his wife, Poornima Devi Rangappa , Ms Anasooya is married to Dr Manjunath,  director of  the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, and their daughter, Namratha is married to Prof Rangappa’s son, Shreyas.

Speaking to reporters , she said that although she was not  active in politics , she had always worked behind the scenes for father, Deve Gowda and brother, “Kumaranna” for over 30 years. “If Kumaranna becomes CM, the power will be in people’s hand,” she declared.

But it was Sandalwood star, Darshan who stole the show, campaigning for Mr Siddaramaiah in Chamundeshwari constituency on Saturday. He was  joined by the Chief Minister’s son, Dr S Yatindra in a few villages. Appealing to the people to come out and vote, he said, “It is not easy for a father to lose his grown up son. Although Siddaramaiah was in deep grief at the loss of his son, he got back to work to serve the people. We need leaders like him.”

Meanwhile the police had to intervene as JD (S) party workers tried to  prevent Darshan from campaigning in Naganahalli village ,saying he  did not speak up for Cauvery water or when actor turned politician, Ambarish was removed from the cabinet.  As Congress workers protested, the police was called in to restore calm.
