Education should be in state purview: Puducherry CM

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Tuesday said that in education a single pattern should not be followed in the country where different communities, languages and culture prevails and hence education should be under the purview of the state government.
The Chief Minister was speaking at Teachers' Day celebrations organised by the directorate of the School Education here. The central government is contemplating to bring education under it and I have a difference of opinion on it.
A single pattern of education should not be followed in the country, said Mr Narayanasany.
Talking about the efforts taken by his government to exempt Puducherry from Neet, the Chief Minister said that the Central government did not respond to the request of the Union Territory.
"Now the remedy is either to change the Supreme Court directions or to prepare the students to meet Neet. Since it will be difficult to change the apex court directions, our students be prepared on par with CBSE students to compete with them in Neet for which teachers should play a vital role", he added
The Chief Minister said that his government is taking all efforts to make Puducherry a hub of education. The Chief Minister also presented 'Best Teacher' awards to 20 teachers.
