Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar, who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate(ED) for alleged money laundering and other financial irregularities, plans to appeal in the Delhi High Court against the ED Special Court's decision to remand him to nine days in the custody of the investigating agency, according to party sources.
Mr Shivakumar's brother, D K Suresh Kumar, held day-long meetings with his lawyers on his future course of action and they are likely to approach the Delhi High Court Friday morning, reveal sources.
The former minister is receiving a great deal of support from within the party with All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi inquiring about his health and promising him all help and senior Congress leader , Mallikarjun Kharge and others from Karnataka dashing off to New Delhi to express their solidarity with him.
Mr Shivakumar's family too has decided to go to New Delhi on Friday. Meanwhile, the bandh in Ramanagara and Kanakapura on Thursday called by Congress supporters in protest against his arrest, passed off peaceful. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Ramanagara deputy commissioner, claiming his arrest was politically motivated. In another development, the Karnataka High Court has upheld its earlier decision, restraining the Enforcement Directorate from arresting the associates of the Congress leader, Sachin Narayan, and Sunil Sharma till September 16.
Mr Shivakumar was arrested without warning by the ED earlier this week while he was in Delhi being interrogated by its officers, on the grounds that he was being evasive and not cooperating with its investigation.
