Mail me on bad roads, G Sudhakaran tells MLAs
Mr K. Muraleedharan, MP, told DC that Mr Sudhakaran was seeking such a report for the first time.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: PWD minister G. Sudhakaran has written to all the 140 legislators in the state seeking a detailed report on the damaged roads in their constituencies. He said that repair and maintenance of the roads can be initiated only after the monsoon subsides.
The department had made good roads in the last three years in spite of lack of resources, he said and added that the rain had ruined 20 percent of the national highway roads.
“Money is available only as shown in the budget. Still, some funds have been earmarked for road repair and maintenance. The work will be taken up once the rain subsides,” said Mr Sudhakaran.
He has asked the legislators to send him e-mails within a week and promised that funds meant for the road repair would not be diverted. The NH repair will be completed by October 31. Funds to rebuild the roads will be earmarked later.
Mr K. Muraleedharan, MP, told DC that Mr Sudhakaran was seeking such a report for the first time. Mr K. C. Joseph, Congress MLA of Irikur said funds should be earmarked for constituencies in Wayanad, Kannur and Malappuram.
“Certain districts in Malabar were not included in the Rebuild Kerala scheme which should be corrected,” said Mr Joseph.
