DMK not trying to stop civic polls, says MK Stalin
Reacting to a question if he would visit CM Jayalalithaa at the hospital, he said there are reports that she could not meet anyone at present.
Chennai: The Leader of the Opposition, M.K. Stalin, said on Wednesday that the DMK is not trying to stop the local body elections and only attempting to ensure fair polls.
Talking to mediapersons at the party headquarters here, he cited the party’s petition in the Supreme Court demanding the use of EVMs and polling officials from outside the State to ensure fair elections.
Reacting to a question if he would visit Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa at the hospital, he said there are reports that she could not meet anyone at present.
He also referred to party leader M. Karunanidhi’s statement for transparency on the CM’s health condition. He said senior ministers or the Chief Secretary should come out with details on the health condition of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. He added that such an explanation would stop the rumours. He regretted that the government had not acceded to the DMK demand for information on the CM’s health so far.
Reacting to another question, Stalin said Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam or PWD Minister ‘Edappadi’ K. Palanisamy should be asked about convening an all-party meeting on the Cauvery issue.
He said DMK’s fast, which is to be held on October 7, would convey its opposition to the BJP government at the Centre, which stopped the formation of CMB.
