Veterans face tough competition in Nizamabad

TJS and CPI are jointly working in the ensuing elections, but, the Congress senior leaders are facing a tough situation.

The Congress initially thought of fielding a Hindu leader K. Sivadasan Nair, former Aranmula MLA, but after second thoughts it has decided to put up a Christian.

NIZAMABAD: Congress party veterans are struggling hard to win Assembly elections in undivided Nizamabad district. Stiff competition from ruling TRS candidates and a triangular contest in Assembly constituencies are major reasons for this situation. Opposition parties — the Congress, the Telugu Desam, TJS and CPI are jointly working in the ensuing elections, but, the Congress senior leaders are facing a tough situation.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council and Congress MLA candidate in Kamareddy, Mr Mohammad Shabbir Ali is facing tough competition from TRS candidate Mr Gampa Govardhan. It may be noted that Mr Govardhan defeated Mr Shabbir Ali in 1994 and 2009, when the latter was cabinet minister in undivided AP.
