7,936 AIADMK members file applications to contest in the coming TN election

Release said 26,174 party members have paid a total of Rs.28.40 crore as application fees for the tickets.

Chennai: This could well be a Guinness record, not likely to be broken for a long time by another political leader. As many as 7,936 AIADMK members have filed applications on behalf of party supremo Ms J. Jayalalithaa to contest from their constituencies in the coming state election.

"No other political party could have witnessed such an astonishing phenomenon", said an AIADMK release here on Saturday, while announcing the final figures for the number of ticket aspirants and the money collected from them as the application fees.

The release said 26,174 party members have paid a total of Rs.28.40 crore as application fees for the tickets for the 234 constituencies in the state.

This includes 7,936 members paying the ticket fees on behalf of Ms Jayalalithaa requesting her to contest from their constituencies.  

As many as 17,698 aspirants filed their forms at the party headquarters here seeking tickets in Tamil Nadu.

There were 332 applications for Puducherry (30 seats) and 208 for Kerala (140 seats), the AIADMK release said.

The party headquarters on Avvai Shanmugam Salai received applications from ticket seekers from January 20. The party had extended the deadline for applications by three days, which ended today (Saturday).
