No Hassan ZP post for Bhavani, JD(S) fumes
The fireworks have started after former minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Revanna accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of vengeance politics.
BENGALURU: A cold war has begun between the Congress and JD(S), coalition partners in the BBMP council. Bengaluru mayor Manjunath Reddy belongs to the Congress while his deputy is Ms Hemalatha of the JD(S).
The fireworks have started after former minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Revanna accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of vengeance politics to finish off the opposition party and ensure that Congress gets the plum post of president in Hassan Zilla Panchayat.
Since JD(S) had secured a good number of seats in the ZP polls, Ms Bhavani Revanna, wife of H.D. Revanna was the top contender for the chairperson’s post. Mr Revanna alleges that the reservation matrix for the ZP posts has been drawn up in such a way to deprive his wife of the post of chairperson.
The former minister who is the elder son of Mr Deve Gowda, even threatened to withdraw support to the Congress in BBMP and dared Mayor Manjunath Reddy to step down from the post of mayor. The JD(S) has 21 members in the BBMP council including 14 councillors, MLAs and MLCs who have extended support to the Congress.
The JD(S) has also opposed the revision of property tax carried out by BBMP and the formation of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
