Chennai: In a bid to try and get all the people voting, the Election Commission of India on Tuesday will initiate a first of its mass pledge among electorates on ethical voting. Chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni said the pledge was to remind people not to accept money for votes. “By 10 am May 10 about 10 million people are likely to take the pledge on ethical voting”, Lakhoni said.

They can take the pledge and upload pictures on their company websites, government websites and also on their own facebook pages. The voters can also write their own pledge. Refusing to take money is the need of the hour and media houses should also take the pledge and publish such pictures, the CEO urged. Government officials and private institutions have been told to make the event a success, he said.

He also added that authenticated photo voter slips would be distributed to all electors before the date of poll. Earlier in the day, Chennai district election officer and corporation commissioner B Chandra Mohan interacted with the managers of radio channels and mobile service providers. He briefed them about the poll code and said sending bulk sms and audio recordings to public without prior permission from returning officers is a poll violation.
