Modi visit: Security beefed up in Kasargod

KASARGOD: Officials of the agencies in charge of the security of the Prime Minister have directed tightening of security measures in view of the visit of Mr Narendra Modi here on Sunday. The officials held a review meeting with district police officials on Friday. They also inspected the helipad and the meeting venue.
Mr Modi will land at Mangalore international airport at 8 am on Sunday and will arrive at the specially prepared helipad at Kasargod Government College ground at around 10.20 am. The PM will travel in his motorcade from helipad to the venue where he will attend the meeting till 11.30 am. After addressing the gathering, he will go back to Mangalore from the helipad at 11.50 am.
The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Union Health Minister J.P Nadda. BJP leaders from both Kerala and Karnataka are expected to attend the programme. The State police’s bomb and dog squads have been conducting regular inspections at main centres in the city including Kasargod railway station. A unit of Karnataka police has also arrived.
Meanwhile, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will arrive at Kasargod district on May 12 to address a UDF election campaign at Chattanchal in Uduma for Congress leader K Sudhakaran. The UDF is planning to hold a rally of 25,000 workers.
