Mysuru: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge campaigned for the party candidates in Mysuru on Sunday at Ashokpuram and other areas dominated by Dalits.

He said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee had formed a committee under a retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to review to the Constitution. But the union government stopped it owing to protests from various sections of society.

Recently, Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde stated that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, will “soon change the Constitution”, which mentions the word “secular”. If the BJP came to power in the State, it would definitely tamper with the Constitution. The Scheduled Castes must teach the BJP a lesson, he added.

He said the current political trend is favourable to the Congress to retain power in the state. The party is receiving a good response from the people during the campaign, the veteran Congress leader said.
