Pay Rs 50K per acre to rain-hit farmers, BJP tells govt
VIJAYAWADA: BJP Kisan Morcha’s state unit leader Y.V. Subba Rao demanded the state government to immediately provide a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to farmers who suffered losses following untimely rains over the past few days.
Paddy crop has been severely damaged and discoloured after soaking in rainwater, but the government procurement centres are refusing to purchase the paddy and grains from farmers who are not registered with the e-Crop portal, he alleged.
Subba Rao demanded the government relax purchase rules and buy the rain-hit crop from non-registered farmers as well.
Since the paddy crop was submerged in water, farmers have suffered serious losses as the grains have started sprouting after being dried. He told the state government to speed up purchase immediately to save the farmers from the agony of losing their crop and facing financial woes.
