Andhra Pradesh to hold elections for 66 sarpanchs, 1,064 ward members on August 19
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has issued a notification for the conduct of elections to the casual vacancies of 66 sarpanchs and 1,064 ward members in 1,033 gram panchayats in the state. These vacancies have arisen due to the death or resignation of the elected representatives.
The poll will be conducted on August 19, 2023. The filing of nominations will begin on August 8 and the last date for submission of nominations is August 10. Scrutiny of nominations will be done on August 11, appeals against the rejection of nominations can be filed on August 12, and the disposal of appeals will be done on August 13.
The last day for withdrawal of candidates from nominations is August 14, and the publication of the final list of contesting candidates will be done on the same day. The polling will be held on August 19, from 7 am to 1 pm. The counting of votes will be held on the same day, from 2 pm onwards, and the results will be declared soon after the completion of counting. If necessary, re-polling will be conducted on August 20.
The SEC has directed the concerned election officers to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made for the smooth conduct of the elections. It has also asked the police to provide security for the smooth conduct of the polls.
