THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has alleged that BJP MLA O. Rajagopal stood in favour of the CPM in the self-financing college management issue. While inaugurating the UDF’s Secretariat march against the Left government’s favourable attitude towards private management association, Mr Chennithala alleged that BJP played double standards.

Mr Chennithala claimed that while the ABVP led Secretariat march against the Left government’s favourable attitude, Mr Rajagopal was writing letter of appreciation in favour of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. “When it comes to the self-financing college issue, BJP played double standards. The Left government has joined hands with the private managements so as to increase the fees to Rs 10 lakh during the next academic year,” Mr Chennithala said. He reiterated that it was only due to Mr Pinarayi Vijayan’s stubborn stand that the discussions with the self- financing college managements failed.

Mr Chennithala claimed that in order to increase the fee structure from next year, the cases in front of the High Court are also being purposefully conceding defeat. He opined that those colleges which had not entered into an agreement with the government are the ones who have already won the bumper prize. If not for Mr Pinarayi’s firm stand, poor students would have got a scholarship of Rs 40,000. “The real face of the CM was unleashed before people for the first time. He need not think that he can suppress people of Kerala,” added Mr Chennithala.
