TD Says Government\'s Inaction led to Centre Controlling AP's Water Resources

Kurnool: Telugu Desam party's fifth zone in-charge Beeda Ravichandra Yadav on Saturday said state government's inaction in managing water resources of AP has resulted in the Centre taking over control of the state's water resources.

Addressing media in Kurnool on Saturday, Ravichandra Yadav said Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) had in 2015 allocated 512 TMC of water to Andhra Pradesh and 299 TMC to Telangana.

However, Telangana has been demanding a larger share in water allocation. The recent Union Cabinet decision entrusting the responsibility of sharing Krishna River waters between the two Telugu states to the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal has become a matter of grave concern, the TD leader pointed out.

He feared in case Telangana ends up receiving more water, it could leave Rayalaseema facing water scarcity.

Ravichandra Yadav regretted that despite these concerns, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has not taken any substantial action, leading many to question his commitment to safeguarding the state's water rights.

Further, he said there is frustration over the state government's inaction on the Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme, which is facing legal challenges. Lack of progress in resolving these issues has resulted in anger among farmers and people of the Rayalaseema region.
