JD(S) chief Deve Gowda and his family at Eshwar and Ranganatha temples at Haradanahalli on Monday.

Hassan: There does not seem to be any clarity as yet on whether Prajwal Revanna, son of senior JD(S) leader, H D Revanna, will contest the coming Assembly elections in 2018.

While his mother, Bhavani Revanna, a Zilla Panchayat member, told reporters here that Prajwal’s plunge into electoral politics had been cleared by party supremo and her father-in-law, H D Deve Gowda , state party chief,  H D Kumaraswamy was evasive on the question.

Speaking to reporters a couple of hours after Ms Bhavani,  he requested them to speak to  Mr Deve Gowda himself if he had given his okay to Prajwal contesting the assembly polls. While admitting that his nephew was keen on contesting the election, he maintained a clear picture would emerge in the next few days.

Unlike him, however, Ms Bhavani was more positive about  her son’s prospects and said it only remained to be decided if  Prajwal would contest from Belur in Hassan or Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru as both seats were considered safe by the party.

To add to the confusion  Mr Deve Gowda had himself told reporters in Hassan  a while ago that Prajwal could contest the 2019  Lok Sabha election from his  own Hassan constituency if no other party leader was  interested in replacing him.

Mr Prajwal had hoped to contest the assembly elections from Hunsur in Mysuru but had to back out after the party  decided to field former minister, A H Vishwanath from the constituency  after he quit the Congress to join it.
Meanwhile, JDS sources claimed that Prajwal could contest the assembly poll  from Belur.
