TN CM lays stone for Rs 96.31cr Int yoga and naturopathy centre

Chennai: In a major boost to fostering Indian healthcare systems, in line with the Narendra Modi govenrment's emphasis on 'Ayuvrved', 'Yoga' and other Indian systems, a major International Yoga and Naturopathy Science centre is being established on the government medical college campus in Chenglepet, which will soon regain its status as headquarters of a district by that name.

Following his announcement in this regard in the State Assembly, Chief Minister, Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday unveiled a plaque to lay the foundation stone for the proposed International centre at a function in the secretariat. The global centre is being built at a cost of `96.31 crore on a 50-acre land situated in the government medical college campus in Chenglepet, 60-km south of Chennai.

Launching several other projects from here today, Mr. Palaniswami inaugurated the 'PET-CT Scan', a highly sophisticated equipment for detecting cancer and treatment of the disease at the Government Rajaji hospital in Madurai, at a cost of `ten crore.

In Tirupur government district headquarters hospital, Chief Minister also inaugurated a new block for maternity and childcare at a cost of Rs 18 crore. In Krishnagiri district headquarters government hospital, a `. two crore out-patient building was launched. In Hosur government hospital, a Rs.1.20 crore surgical theatre facility was inaugurated by him for women and children.

Similar new hospital buildings were also inaugurated at the government hospitals in Karaikudi, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Tirunelveli, Theni and Villupuram, involving a total capital outlay of Rs. 30.49 crore, an official press release said here.

Mr. Palaniswami also presided over a review meeting to monitor the progress under the Chief Minister Special Public Grievances Redressal camps being held in different parts of Tamil Nadu. Of the about 9.72 lakh petitions received under this scheme, 5.11 lakh were accepted. On scrutiny, 4.37 lakh petitions were rejected and the remaining 23,538 public petitions action will be taken within a week as per the Chief Minister's directive, another official release said.
