Former CM Bommai Alleges Karnataka Is Facing Undeclared State of Emergency

Hubballi: Accusing the Congress government in the state of instilling fear among the people, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asserted that Karnataka is currently experiencing an undeclared state of emergency.

Addressing reporters on Sunday, Bommai criticized the present government for what he deemed as oppressive governance. He expressed concern about the language used by the chief minister and cabinet colleagues, arguing that it hampers individual freedom of speech.

According to Bommai, cases are being filed against those who speak out against injustice, and efforts are underway to suppress dissent and cover up issues within the ruling party. He claimed there is an atmosphere of an undeclared emergency in the state, with deliberate attempts to instill fear.

Bommai alleged that the arrest of Shrikanth Poojary was part of a broader strategy to create fear in Karnataka, during the preparations for the inauguration of the Sri Rama Mandir in Ayodhya. He criticized the arrest, stating it occurred without a valid case and drew parallels to the emergency era.

“The police officials and ministers have failed to provide satisfactory explanations and have not extended even a basic courtesy of an apology,” he remarked.

"People are closely observing everything. The intoxication of power within this government in just seven months is evident, and the BJP will strongly oppose it. A 'Chinthan-Manthan' meeting of the party is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday), where the plan of action will be determined," he announced.

Regarding the Sri Rama Mandir, Bommai accused the Congress Party of being against its construction in Ayodhya, alleging that their objective was to obstruct the temple construction.

“They cannot come to terms with the fact that the temple is being built” he said.
Dispelling any aspirations for a parliamentary election, Bommai firmly stated, “I am not an aspirant. It is not on my mind.”
