HYDERABAD: BJP legislator Etala Rajendar said that the party was ready for a debate on the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), which state minister K.T. Rama Rao had claimed the Centre was privatising.

Rajendar strongly condemned the protest call for Saturday given by the BRS in coal mine areas ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad. The people, especially the SCCL employees, had realised the true colours of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, he alleged.

Rajendas was speaking at a press conference along with party legislator M. Raghunandan Rao, former MP Konda Vishveshwar Reddy, former MLA E. Ravinder Reddy, RTC Mazdoor Sangh former president Ashwathama Reddy, spokesperson N.V. Subhash at the party state headquarters.

He said the Prime Minister was arriving in Telangana to set foundation stones for Rs. 11,000-crore worth developmental works despite which the BRS had started a vicious campaign, he said.

Modi had made it clear that SCCL privatisation was not possible as the Telangana government had a 51 per cent stake in the company, during his visit to Ramagundam, the BJP MLA said. He said the BRS MPs had supported the Modi government’s amendments to the Mines Minerals Regulation Act to regulate the allotment of coal mines.

Rajendar claimed that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had never asked the Centre for four mines for SCCL. The BRS government should disclose the reasons why it did not participate in the auction of coal mines, he questioned.
