Power plants putting lives of Muthukur locals in peril: Jana Sena

Update: 2023-09-08 05:05 GMT

Tirupati: Jana Sena leaders, led by the district general secretary Gunukula Kishore, alleged that power plants in Muthukur mandal have been causing a nightmarish experience for villagers residing in Pynampuram and Devaradibba villages. They expressed concerns at the severe health issues faced by the people in these two villages, allegedly caused by air and water pollution in the region.

The leaders on Thursday visited the Devaradibba tribal colony, where they interacted with the villagers and enquired about the challenging situation they are facing. Speaking to the media during their visit, Kishore expressed concerns about the plight of the locals. He lamented that houses in the tribal colony have been covered with fly ash released from the nearby thermal power projects, leading to serious breathing issues due to air pollution.

According to Kishore, approximately 300 people reside in the tribal colony, spread across 80 houses. The villagers are ready to relocate if alternative housing solutions are provided by the authorities. He said that they intend to bring the issue to the attention of the district collector, with the hope of securing alternative housing in a safer zone.
