Hyderabad: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that the Congress governments have always been farmer-friendly. He was addressing the gathering at the Rythu Garjana in Kodad constituency of Nalgonda district on Sunday.

Mr Uttam said, “Around 4,500 farmers committed suicide in Telangana state in the past four-and-half years. Many farmers were troubled as there is no minimum support price for their crops after the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) came to power. All suicides are due to financial problems and lack of support from the government.”

He added, “The Congress, since the tenure of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has always been supporting the farmers. The same will be continued after the Congress comes to the power. Our manifesto will be setup with all problems being faced by the farmers in the state. The most important move will be waiving off loans upto '2 lakh at one go. The TRS leaders say that the budget is not enough to do so. We are confident that the first budget of our government will fulfil the promises to the farmers. The Congress government will give bonus from the state budget that will be additional to the minimum support price. Apart from these, the crop insurance and accident insurance will be paid to the farmers. All children of poor farmers will get 100 per cent fee reimbursement.”

The Congress also organised a public meeting with Muslim minorities in Quthbullapur constituency of Hyderabad where TS Congress working president A. Revanth Reddy slammed the Mr Rao. He said, “Why should anyone vote for KCR, when he failed to fulfil any of the promises made in previous polls? The police should put him behind the bars in Andaman, as he is driving the state by consuming alcohol. He is bringing up the issue of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to provoke the people’s sentiments again. The people should decide, whether, a passport broker should rule the state or not.”
