DK Shivakumar to CM: Scrap med college, face serious action
Mr Shivakumar recalled that the medical college was approved by the previous coalition government.
Bengaluru: Sounding battle ready, former minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday shot off a letter to Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa warning of serious action if the state government indulged in “vendetta politics” over allotment of a medical college to his constituency of Kanakapura. Mr Shivakumar recalled that the medical college was approved by the previous coalition government, which also allotted it land and made preparations for its “bhoomi puje” as well. But the BJP government transferred the medical college to Chikballapura.
“I request you to immediately restore the medical college for Kanakapura and give a date for performing its bhoomi puje,” Mr Shivakumar said. Referring to Mr Yediyurappa's promise that he would never resort to vengeful politics, especially in matters of development, the Congress leader said subsequent events showed that reality was very different.
“If your government's sole intention is to play vendetta politics, then I will be left with no choice but to resort to serious action of my own to get justice for the people of Kanakapura,” he warned, hoping that the Chief Minister would not give him reason to go that far.
“I would like to reiterate that I have no objection whatsoever to the allotment of a medical college to Chikballapura district. My only objection is to the cancellation of the medical college allotted to Kanakapura,” he emphasised.
Mr Yediyurappa had recently announced that his government planned to have one medical college in each district and would take a decision on sanctioning medical colleges in the taluks (like Kanakapura) only after it had achieved this goal.
