Chennai: While elected MLAs are with AIADMK party general secretary V. K. Sasikala, former councillors and those aspiring for the ensuing local body polls throng the residence of care taker chief minister O. Panneerselvam extending their support from different parts of the state. In Chennai, most of the councillors on Wednesday chose to remain indoors and were not available for comments. In case of R K Nagar assembly constituency party cadres supported Panneerselvam and are now putting up posters asking him to lead the party, whereas party councillors and ward secretaries chose to adhere with the party office bearers. “We are with the party and we will abide by what party headquarters instruction,” said former councillor N Sasikala of Ward 38 (New Washermenpet) coming under R K Nagar assembly constituency.

“I am confused and do not want to comment now. District secretary is insisting to stick to the party, but well-wishers are asking me to support Panneerselvam”, said a woman councillor who, along with her husband was spotted both at Party headquarters and at the Greenways road where the official residence of CM Panneerselvam is located. Former mayor and AIADMK heavy weight Saidai S. Duraisamy also chose to remain silent, when DC contacted. “Unlike the MLAs, those aspiring to be councillors needs to face elections and for this reason most of us are silent,” said a senior AIADMK councillor of central Chennai.
