Bloom Energy, according to the US press, is changing the way the world generates and consumes energy and the company claims that its unique on-site power generation systems utilize an innovative new fuel cell energy technology with roots in Nasa’s Mars program.

“Our energy servers are among the most efficient energy generators on the planet; providing for significantly reduced  electricity costs and  dramatically reduce greenhouse gas  emissions,” the company’s website says.

Dr Sridhar, who was director of the Space Technologies Laboratory at the University of Arizona, led a project that built a Mars oxygen production cell and started working on reversing the process, using oxygen and hydrogen to create power after Nasa cancelled the Mars-2001 Surveyor Lander mission.
