THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: JNU students who fought in unison against the BJP Government on Rohit Vemula, HCU, JNU issue and the slapping of sedition charges against their leaders, might be seen campaigning for different parties in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.

JNUSU Kanhaiya Kumar who is coming to Thiruvananthapuram on April 12 on an invite from CPI students wing AISF, will attend a grand reception being hosted by LDF constituents at E K Nayanar park. While the fire brand student leader is keeping off election rallies, he will express his views on electing the right people.

“Many LDF candidates will take part in the reception. Being a national figure, his views will carry weight,” said C Divakaran, CPI candidate in Nedumangad. While the CPI leaders were keen to have him in campaign rallies, Kanahaih is understood to have told them that the time was not ripe yet.

JNU leaders including Aparajita Raja, AISF national president Syed Valiyullah Qadri and secretary Bishwajith will campaign for Mohammad Mohsin ,LDF  candidate from Pattambi.  “Many of our comrades from JNU belonging to Left students organisations will camp in the constituency. I am sure their presence attract young voters,” he said.

Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader K K Rema who is in the fray from Vadakara Assembly constituency said JNU students affiliated to Democratic Students Organisation (DSO)  would campaign for her. "JNUSU vice president Shehla Rashid during her recent visit to Kozhikode had promised to campaign if examination dates didn't clash with election schedule," she added.

NSUI national president Roji M John, UDF candidate from Angamaly who is also a JNU student , believes that there is nothing wrong in student leaders taking part in election campaigns. “It is their democratic right to support the candidate of their choice. I do expect on-line campaigns by JNU students in my favour,” he added.
