The Election Commission has given the Telangana state government permission to hold local body elections any time after the Lok Sabha elections.
The LS elections will be held in Telangana on April 11 and the results will be declared on May 23. Till then, the model code of conduct will remain in force in the state. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is of the opinion that if the local body elections are held after the LS elections, while the model code of conduct is still in force, there will be no need for the code of conduct to be imposed again for the local body elections. Sources close to Mr Rao say that he is thinking of holding the elections between April 15 and 20.
