Hyderabad: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao took a dig at Union home minister Amit Shah for his remarks that Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English, and not local languages. He took to Twitter on Saturday to counter Amit Shah's statement.

Rao tweeted, "Unity in diversity is our strength dear AmitShah Ji. India is a union of states & a true 'Vasudhaika Kutumbam'. Why don't we let people of our great nation decide what to eat, what to wear, who to pray to and what language to speak! Language chauvinism/hegemony will boomerang (sic)."

Rao stated that imposing Hindi would be a 'great disservice' to the youngsters of the nation, who have global aspirations.

"I am an Indian first, a proud Telugu and Telanganaite next. Can speak in my mother tongue Telugu, English, Hindi and a little bit of Urdu too. To impose Hindi and diss English will be a great disservice to the youngsters of this nation who have global aspirations. #stopHindiImposition, (sic)" he tweeted.

In another tweet, Rama Rao lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the high prices of motor fuels and LPG. "Finally, under the leadership of PM Modi ji, India is No.1 in the world (sic)," Rama Rao tweeted, with reference to fuel and LPG prices.

Rama Rao referred to media reports on Saturday which stated that based on purchasing power parity (PPP) dollar estimation, the LPG price in India is highest in the world, petrol price the third highest in the world and diesel price eighth highest in the world.
