Thiruvananthapuram: A special session of the political affairs committee will be chaired by  Congress MP Sudarshan Nachiappan at Indira Bhavan here on Tuesday. He  is also the returning officer to hold the organisational elections countrywide.

A meeting of the UDF also will be held on Tuesday evening when the Kottayam district panchayat election and Mr K.M. Mani’s move to join the LDF  will be discussed.

The majority of the 14 DCCs have completed  60 percent of the booth committees in their respective districts without  any group compulsions.  The DCC presidents have urged  the AICC leadership not to change the booth committees when the organisational elections are  held.

“Since the  committees have already been formed, it is best not to change them to avoid intra-party fights.  The AICC leadership should hold elections in mandalam and booth committees”, said a DCC president.

The booth committee leaders were appointed based on consensus.  Mr. Nachiappan will be urged to give  more opportunities to the youngsters in the organisational elections.

The UDF meeting will be held  at Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s official residence. Kerala Congress (Jacob) chairman Johnny Nellore told DC that he was willing to try for the unity of all the Kerala Congress parties.

“I will be happy to take the initiative.   Kerala Congress leaders like Francis George who had joined the LDF should  also be brought  to the UDF,”  he said.

The UDF meeting will also discuss  Munnar encroachments and the agitations to be planned against the government.
