Cops are trying to protect rapists, alleges Revanth
Accuses police commissioner of concealing facts
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MP A. Revanth Reddy alleged that the police were trying to protect the accused in the Jubilee Hills minor girl gangrape case.
Family members of the Waqf Board chairman and an MIM MLA had been facing charges in the sensational gangrape case, he said and alleged that to protect the interests of influential persons in the state government, Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand was trying to protect the accused.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday after returning from the US tour, Revanth Reddy said vehicles used in gangrape case were vital evidence for investigation. The police did not issue notices to the vehicle owners or seized the vehicles, he pointed out.
If minors drove the vehicle, then police should issue notices to their parents, but they did not, he said. He demanded that the police register criminal cases against the vehicle owners, which was used for the gangrape.
The TPCC president questioned why the commissioner of police was concealing the details of vehicle owners. "The police failed to seize the vehicle till June 4, though the rape case was occurred on May 28," he said.
There was a conspiracy to erase evidence of gangrape and protect the accused, he alleged, adding that the brand image of Hyderabad was spoiled during the TRS rule.
K. Chandrashekar Rao encouraged pub culture in Hyderabad and numerous pubs were set up in the city, he said. “I am fighting against the drug menace in Hyderabad, but the TRS government failed to prevent it. No case was registered against the owners of pubs or seized the pubs that hosted parties to minors,” Revanth Reddy said.
TPCC chief questioned why Chandrashekar Rao was silent over gangrapes of minor girls in Hyderabad.
Revanth Reddy warned that the Congress would not keep quiet if atrocities against women continued in the state.
National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists would attack pubs in Hyderabad, he said. Pubs and supply of ganja were major reasons for increase in crime against women. The TRS government was mounting tremendous pressure on police officers, he said and demanded that permits of pubs be cancelled immediately.
