TN Governor Ravi Meets Amit Shah as DMK Intensifies Attack

Update: 2023-07-09 10:28 GMT

Chennai: Governor R N Ravi, who left for New Delhi on Friday evening, called at the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday and had a ‘purposeful meeting with him, even as the DMK continued with its onslaught against him, now accusing him of conspiring to let corrupt former AIADMK ministers off the hook.

While the Raj Bhavan tweet carried a photograph of Ravi handing over a bouquet to Amit Shah and said that they had a ‘purposeful meeting’ in Delhi, DMK’s official newspaper, Murasoli, said in an editorial that the Governor’s mask had been torn in his latest confrontation with the government on the delay in giving sanction for prosecuting former Ministers.

Earlier there was a suspicion that the Governor could be an ignoramus when he was giving erroneous interpretations of Thirukural and Vallalar’s preaching but of late he had been exposed as one plotting the escape of former corrupt ministers since he had come out with lies when cornered.

His excuse that he had not received the files relating to the request for sanction for prosecution of two former Minister had been proved to be a false claim as the relevant documents had come out in the public domain, the editorial wanted to know how much time he required to consult legal experts on the prosecution of two other former Ministers.

Did he need 10 months to seek the opinion of legal experts when he could not bear with the delay of three days in handing over the investigation of the Coimbatore car blast case to the NIA?, the editorial mockingly asked.

Since it had been established that Raj Bhavan had acknowledged the receipt of the files that the Governor claimed to have not been delivered to him, the editorial wanted to know if Ravi knew what was happening in his office, raising the doubt that if he was being kept in the dark about things happening there.

While it could be construed that the Governor did not give his consent for the Bills relating to the Chief Minister becoming the head of the State universities because he did not want to lose his power over the universities, his real motive came to light when he held back the Bill banning online gambling, it said.

Now he totally stood exposed by going to the extent of telling lies to protect former Ministers investigated for corruption charges by various agencies, it said.
