With CBI investigation, Centre may cover up BJP role: VS Ugrappa
Mr Ugrappa rejected the suspicions raised by Gauri's brother Indrajit Lankesh that Left extremists could be behind the murder.
Chikkamagaluru: The political debate over the murder of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh is heating up with Congress MLC V.S. Ugrappa pointing fingers at the BJP behind the murder. Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Mr Ugrappa rejected the suspicions raised by Gauri's brother Indrajit Lankesh that Left extremists could be behind the murder.
“The BJP people have woken up from their deep slumber after the visit of their national president Amith Shah. They are demanding a CBI probe into the issue. During their five years of ruling, the BJP did not hand over a single case to the CBI. Now, if the case is handed over to the CBI, they may try to bury their role, if any, in the case. The statements made by Sringeri MLA D.N. Jeevaraj are a testimony to the BJP mindset,'' Mr Ugrappa said.
Denying a Naxal role, Mr Ugrappa said that Naxalites tend to take credit for their work but no responsibility has been claimed in this case.
He said that he doesn’t rule out the involvement of an extremist faction. “The SIT is probing the murder from all angles and truth will come out,” he said.
