Congress ensures a fight for Medak MLC seat
The TRS leadership tried in vain to elect its candidate Yadava Reddy unanimously
Hyderabad: A united approach by Congress leaders helped in zeroing in on a consensus nominee for the MLC elections in the undivided Medak district, which effectively dashed the unanimous victory hopes of the TRS think tank.
Former deputy chief minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha and TPCC working presidents T. Jayaprakash ‘Jagga’ Reddy and J. Geetha Reddy unanimously fielded Sangareddy district Congress committee president T. Nirmala Jagga Reddy as the party candidate for the MLC election.
The TRS leadership tried in vain to elect its candidate Yadava Reddy unanimously. By fielding their candidate, senior Congress leaders bolstered the morale of their 230 voters in Medak local authority constituency. With a massive strength of 777 voters in the district, the ruling party is confident of winning with a comfortable majority.
Meanwhile, TPCC is staying away from the ensuing MLC elections as it has permitted leaders from the erstwhile Khammam and Medak districts to choose the candidates.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Jayaprakash Reddy said that they succeeded in having a poll battle.
“We do not have the required majority for winning the MLC elections. But we successfully ripped apart the unanimous election aspirations of the TRS candidate”, he said.
The Congress party is confident of getting 230 votes of its elected representatives and 170 votes of others, he said.
