Naidu promises to fight for Muslim reservations, schemes
TD chief alleged that schemes for the welfare of Muslims have now been cancelled by the YSRC government
Vijayawada: Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday promised to take the responsibility of Muslims’ interests and restore all their welfare schemes once the TD returns to power.
He was interacting with members of Muslim minorities at Ponnur during the course of his Badude Badudu programme.
Naidu pointed out that when Telugu Desam came to power in 1983, it formed within two years the minorities’ corporation, recognised Urdu as second official language, built Haj House in Hyderabad and established the Urdu university.
After the state’s bifurcation, Telugu Desam government started another Urdu university in Kurnool and provided Ramzan Tofa to over 10 lakh Muslims. Even Sankranthi Kanuka had been extended to them.
The TD chief protested that these and other schemes for the welfare of Muslims have now been cancelled by the YSRC government.
He questioned, why Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy could not continue the Pelli Kanuka scheme though he had promised ₹10 lakh under the scheme. He wondered why the Jagan government stipulated basic qualification of SSC for the scheme when no such qualification is required to become a minister or government adviser.
Naidu called upon Muslim community to protest against false cases being registered against anyone. "Tomorrow you may have to face the same situation if you do not react now,” he remarked.
The TD chief expressed serious concern that wakf lands are being illegally occupied. He promised to save wakf properties once Telugu Desam comes back to power.
