IMA representatives meet MP, air concerns over NMC Bill
The Parliamentary committee will meet on January 12 to discuss these issues.
Thiruvananthapuram: IMA representatives on Tuesday met Rajya Sabha MP K. Somaprasad and briefed him about the ‘anti-democratic’ provisions in the proposed National Medical Commission Bill.
The delegation of IMA led by Dr A. Marthanda Pillai, former national president, presented their main objections about the Bill. Somaprasad is a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee which will be examining the provisions and hearing the views, objections and suggestions of various sections of society. The other member of the committee from Kerala is Kozhikode MP M. K. Raghavan.
The IMA has entrusted two senior office-bearers and other members to meet the MPs and convince them about their argument against the Bill.
IMA sources said the MPs gave a patient hearing to the points raised by their delegation. They are believed to have assured that they would raise the points especially the provisions of the bridge course to bring in ISM doctors into Allopathy, taking control of medical seats currently with the state government and the drastic reduction in the representation of states in the proposed council.
The Parliamentary committee will meet on January 12 to discuss these issues.
