Vijayawada: Telugu Desam president Nara Chandrababu Naidu has lashed out at the ruling YSRC government for causing a steep rise in the prices of essential commodities.

“Because of this price spiral, there is no festive zeal among the people to celebrate it these days,” Naidu said while addressing a ‘Ra-Kadali Ra’ programme at Tuni in Kakinada district on Wednesday.

The TD chief explained how the prices of essentials like rice, tur dal, sugar, cooking oil, domestici gas and petrol and diesel went up in recent years. He slammed the state government for selling poor quality foodstuff at high prices and also how even the rentals for Cable TV connection increased to Rs 350 from Rs 140.

Chandrababu vowed to restore “happiness” among the people once the TD - Jana Sena alliance won power. He recalled the series of sops he has announced in the run-up to the 2024 polls.

These include a sanction of '1,500 to each woman under Maha Shakthi scheme every month, a payment of '15,000 for each student per annum under Ammaku Vandanam, and free travel facility to women in RTC buses.

Naidu gave a video presentation of all the assurances given by Jagan Mohan Reddy when he was the leader of opposition. These included special category status, prohibition of liquor, abolition of the contributory pension scheme, funds for corporations and development of Amaravati. “Did he implement any of these promises,” Naidu asked the people.

Naidu said the political scenario in the state had witnessed a dramatic change and this was evident from the large turnout for the TD’s Tuni meeting. He sounded confident that the TD-JS alliance would form the next government in the state as the “people want good governance.”

The TD chief called upon the people to defeat the YSRC in the coming polls. “The 2024 election would be a fight between five crore people on one side and Jagan Reddy on the other side,” Naidu said.

Naidu said that if his party was elected to power, he would create wealth for AP and administer the state with that wealth. “There will be both development and welfare,” he promised.

The former CM promised to revive Anna Canteens once his party returned to power. He urged the people to elect the TD-JS alliance to usher in a “golden era” for the Telugu people. “I would make efforts with the Centre to get permission for cock fights in AP on the lines of Jallikattu Tamil Nadu,” Naidu stated.
